What Is Ovarian Rejuvenation?
Ovarian rejuvenation is an emerging fertility treatment, most commonly using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) prepared from your own blood. The PRP, rich in growth factors, is injected into the ovaries with the aim of supporting ovarian activity and response to fertility treatment. Its effectiveness is still being studied.
How Is PRP Ovarian Rejuvenation Done?
PRP ovarian rejuvenation involves collecting a small amount of the patient's blood, separating the platelet-rich plasma, and injecting it into the ovarian tissue. The procedure is being studied for its potential role in ovarian function, although its effectiveness in improving fertility outcomes has not yet been established. The process generally involves the following steps.
Step 1: Fertility and Ovarian Reserve Assessment
The fertility specialist evaluates the patient's age, medical history, AMH levels, and Antral Follicle Count (AFC) through ultrasound. Previous IVF cycles, ovarian response, and relevant hormone tests may also be reviewed to assess ovarian reserve and discuss suitable fertility treatment options.
Step 2: Blood Collection
A blood sample is collected from a vein in the patient's arm, similar to a routine blood test. PRP ovarian rejuvenation uses the patient's own blood, which is then processed to obtain platelet-rich plasma.
Step 3: PRP Preparation
The collected blood is processed using a centrifuge machine to separate and concentrate the platelet-containing plasma. Platelets release growth factors involved in tissue repair, although their effectiveness in improving ovarian function has not been established.
Step 4: Ultrasound-Guided Ovarian Injection
The prepared PRP is injected into the ovarian tissue using a thin needle under transvaginal ultrasound guidance. Sedation or anaesthesia may be used depending on clinical requirements. Potential risks include bleeding, infection, injury to surrounding tissues, and anaesthesia-related complications.
Step 5: Recovery and Observation
After the procedure, the patient is monitored for immediate complications before discharge. Mild pelvic discomfort or spotting may occur. Recovery instructions and the observation period depend on the patient's condition and the anaesthesia used.
Step 6: Follow-Up and Fertility Treatment Planning
Follow-up may include repeat AMH testing, ultrasound assessment of the antral follicle count, and other relevant hormone tests. The fertility specialist reviews these findings to discuss further treatment options, including IVF. Changes in ovarian reserve markers do not necessarily indicate improved pregnancy outcomes.
Medical note: PRP ovarian rejuvenation remains an experimental treatment. Current evidence is insufficient to establish that it improves ovarian reserve, egg quality, or live birth rates. Its potential risks and uncertain benefits should be discussed before treatment.

Ovarian Rejuvenation vs Low AMH IVF
| Ovarian Rejuvenation / PRP | IVF for Low AMH | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Experimental attempt to influence ovarian function | Established assisted-reproduction treatment |
| Evidence status | Investigational | Established fertility treatment |
| Uses ovarian stimulation? | Not necessarily during PRP itself | Yes, in most conventional IVF cycles |
| Egg retrieval? | Not part of PRP itself | Yes |
| Fertilisation? | No | IVF or ICSI |
| Proven to raise live-birth rate? | Not established | IVF has established reproductive outcomes |
| Role with low AMH | Experimental/add-on | Core treatment option in suitable patients |
Someone with low AMH should therefore not assume that ovarian rejuvenation needs to happen before IVF. The appropriate sequence depends on age, ovarian reserve, previous treatment and how much time may be lost by delaying established fertility treatment.

Ovarian Rejuvenation With PRP vs Stem Cells
| PRP Ovarian Rejuvenation | Stem Cell Therapy | |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Platelet-rich plasma | Cells or cell-based products |
| Source | Usually patient's own blood | May be autologous or donor-derived |
| Main proposed mechanism | Growth-factor signalling | Regenerative/paracrine cellular effects |
| Evidence in fertility | Limited and inconsistent | Early/investigational |
Stem-cell-based ovarian rejuvenation is a different experimental approach and should not be treated as another name for ovarian PRP.
Why Choose Angel Fertility Clinic for an Ovarian Rejuvenation Consultation?
At Angel Fertility Clinic, we combine specialist-led ovarian assessment, personalized fertility planning, and evidence-based guidance to help you explore PRP ovarian rejuvenation and other suitable fertility treatment options.
Personalized Ovarian Reserve Assessment
Our fertility specialists assess your AMH levels, antral follicle count (AFC), age, medical history, and previous IVF response. This comprehensive evaluation helps us understand your ovarian reserve and discuss appropriate fertility treatment options.
Individualized Fertility Treatment Planning
Every patient's fertility journey is different. We consider your reproductive health, previous treatment history, and fertility goals when discussing options such as IVF and ovarian PRP rejuvenation, rather than recommending the same approach for everyone.
Evidence-Based Fertility Guidance
We prioritize informed treatment decisions by explaining the available medical evidence, potential risks, and limitations of ovarian PRP. As this treatment remains experimental, we help patients understand how it compares with established fertility treatments.
Experienced Fertility and Embryology Team
Our fertility specialists and clinical embryologists work together to support comprehensive fertility assessment, IVF planning, ovarian stimulation, and embryo development. This coordinated approach supports continuity of care throughout the fertility treatment process.
Transparent and Confidential Patient Care
We value patient privacy, clear communication, and informed consent. Our team provides guidance on treatment procedures, associated costs, and available fertility options so you can make decisions with greater clarity and confidence.
